About Bear Bonz Outfitters

Our Story

In 2001, I was working at an athletic shoe manufacturing plant in Maine and hated every moment of it. I would stand at the window on warm summer nights watching mayflies land on the screen, wondering what I was doing with my life.

After September 11th, everything changed. That was the moment I decided to pursue what I truly loved.

In January 2003, I became a Registered Maine Guide, and by July, I left the factory for good. I quickly realized this was exactly what I was meant to do.

There’s nothing more rewarding than teaching outdoor skills and watching it all come together for someone new.

The name Bear Bonz Outfitters came from brainstorming with my father and a close friend. Bear hunting was my main focus at the time, and “Bonz” has been my nickname since childhood.

Meet Your Main Guides

Tom Hamilton

Tom grew up in a hunting family, following his father through the woods from the age of four. With both his father and grandfather leading large hunting groups, guiding was in his blood.

After years of working jobs he didn’t enjoy, Tom became a licensed guide following 9/11. Nearly 25 seasons later, he’s still passionate about helping others experience the outdoors.

Matt Duquette

Matt grew up in south-central Maine, learning to hunt and fish from his father and grandfather.

He is an exceptional deer hunter—especially skilled in tracking—and an experienced fishing guide specializing in trout and salmon trolling. Quiet and humble, Matt lets his results speak for themselves.

Tom Keber

Tom developed his love for the outdoors in Pennsylvania before settling in Maine.

When he’s not working, he’s scouting, shed hunting, or fishing. Inspired by classic hunting films, Tom turned his passion into a career to share his knowledge and create unforgettable experiences for others.

Erik Poland

Erik grew up hunting and fishing in Western Maine and learned from his grandfather in the Eustis/Rangeley region.

A Registered Maine Guide for over six years, Erik specializes in moose hunting and fly fishing for native brook trout. He lives in Andover with his wife and two black labs.
